For the second year running, BMW has received the honor of being the official car of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters 2008 Golf championship. Alfardan Automobiles, the exclusive importers of BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce in Qatar, will make available a fleet of cars from their luxurious BMW and Rolls Royce ranges for the tournament, scheduled to be held in Doha between January 24th and 27th 2008. Stretched dynamics, powerful elegance and fascinating technical perfection: these are the qualities that also convinced the jury to present the internationally acclaimed iF Product Design Awards to the BMW 3 Series Convertible. During the 2008 CeBit technology fair, the first BMW Convertible with a fully retractable hardtop was announced as the winner of the iF Gold Award. This special prize is the highest award the “Industrie Forum Design” presents. The BMW 3 Series Convertible is one of fifty winners of a Gold Award, which were selected from a total of 821 winners of the iF Labels 2008.
This most recent award for BMW 3 Series Convertible is another milestone in the BMW success story with iF Product Design Awards. Last year, the BMW 3 Series Coupe won a Gold Award. For the fourth year in a raw, Alfardan Automobiles, the exclusive importer of BMW in Qatar, has arranged for a BMW Driver Training Program at the Losail Circuit to help BMW owners in Qatar make the most of their high performance cars. The training, scheduled to be conducted on 3rd and 4th April by a team of experienced BMW Certified trainers coming straight from Germany, is yet another Alfardan Automobiles initiative in the company’s constant efforts to provide the highest level of service and quality to its privileged customers.
BMW has been producing some of the world’s finest and most cherished sport cars for many decades, and each car built by the legendary German carmaker is a masterpiece that offers incomparable driving pleasure under any circumstances. “However,” says Mr. Naim Majdalani, Acting General Manager for Alfardan Automobiles, “to get the most out of the high-performance machines that BMWs are, the driver must develop his skill and technique until he is in full control of the tremendous acceleration, braking and handling that his BMW has to offer. It is a well known fact that the limits of today’s state-of-the-art sports cars are well beyond the limits of the average driver. The program will focus on the basics of car control, consisting of exercises and drills designed to get rid of bad habits acquired over years of driving, and replacing them with new, skillfull habits that will aid the driver at all times, especially in an emergency. Drivers will be encouraged to explore and experiment with acceleration, braking and handling, learning to refine their inputs while constantly analyzing feedback from the vehicle and responding appropriately in a split second. It will cover everything for essential driving skills - whether it's avoiding an obstacle, or perfecting the ideal line on the Losail MotoGP racing track. Participants will also be awarded valuable prizes for achieving best timings.” After going through the BMW Driver Training session, drivers will have the vehicle, and themselves, under better control,” said Mr. Majdalani. “They will be faster yet smoother and safer than ever before, and the experience will be truly exhilarating as well as memorable for all participants.”

Racing drivers learn to push their cars to the absolute limit. They learn to look far ahead, to accelerate smoothly yet quickly coming out of the corners and brake precisely whenever the situation requires it. Herbert Grünsteidl, the lead instructor for the BMW driver training at BMW AG, who was flown from Germany only to conduct the training to Alfardan Automobiles customers, says that regular drivers could benefit tremendously from many of the same skills. “Learning to use your car’s various systems effectively and efficiently not only gives you more confidence on the road, but also equips you to handle emergency situations better.” Grünsteidl and his team spent two days at Losail, training BMW owners in basic and intermediate car skills as part of the BMW Advance Driver Training Program organized by Alfardan Automobiles, the exclusive importer of BMW in Qatar for the fourth year in a raw, on the world famous Losail Circuit.
“Each modern BMW has an outstanding number of very effective driver-assist technologies such as Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Power Control and Active steering under its hood. The training program is designed to allow guests to experience these systems in action, and learn to work with them to maintain control and remain safe at all times,” said Grünsteidl. Alfardan Automobiles invited BMW customers in Qatar to attend the training program to pick up the skills and make the most of their high performance vehicles. “We’re constantly looking for ways to provided added value to our customers, and what better way to do so than help them become better drivers by learning to harness the performance and technology of their BMW,” says Naim Majdalani, Alfardan Automobiles’ Acting General Manager. “It is a known fact that today’s sports cars with their high performance handling and brakes have capabilities well beyond those of the average driver and that’s precisely why BMW engineers have worked so hard to incorporate various driver assist technologies to aid the driver every step of the way, but you still need to know what these systems can and cannot do in real world situations.”
The training program itself consisted of different modules. First up was emergency braking. Drivers’ reaction times were tested as they made a series of controlled emergency stops aided by the car’s various electronic systems. The activity gave the trainees a realistic idea of how quickly their car might be able to come to a stop in an emergency. It was followed by an exercise in swerving to avoid danger, and then the drivers went out for a few laps on the Losail Circuit, with the maestro pointing out the correct racing line for the benefit of the trainees. The final activity of the day was a timed slalom that tested each driver’s speed and control of the car where participants of the best timings were awarded valuable prizes from Alfardan Automobiles. “The integration of the driver assists is seamless,” said one of the trainees, “You can’t feel the technology all the time, but if you get yourself in a situation, it’s right there to help you out! Every time I took a corner too fast or swerved too quickly, the systems stepped in to stabilize the car for me. I didn’t once feel out of control.” Another trainee had this to say: “I know that the next time I’m in an emergency situation on the road, I’m going to be able to react quicker and more appropriately than I would otherwise have been able to, thanks to today’s course.”

The new BMW M3 Sedan and Convertible will mark its debut in the region in May, BMW Group Middle East confirmed today.
The powerful Sedan and Convertible features a highly tuned 4.0-litre V8, the first for an M3, and produces an astonishing 420 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque at 8,400rpm. The M3 propels from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
“BMW has raised its performance benchmark with the introduction of the 2008 M3 Sedan and Convertible setting new standards while remaining first and foremost a BMW M3 in its character,” said Phil Horton, Managing Director, BMW Group Middle East.

BMW Group, the world’s most successful premium automotive manufacturer, has announced that its pre-owned vehicle sales across the Middle East for January-May 2008 have increased by 75 per cent over the same period last year.
BMW Premium Selection, the company’s industry leading global pre-used programme, was set up in the Middle East in 2006 as a sub-brand of BMW Group. The BMW X6, the world’s first Sport Activity Coupé, has extended its product range to include a more powerful X6 xDrive50i variant that features a new 4.4-litre V8 engine with Twin Turbo technology. The latest model joins the highly successful BMW X6 xDrive35i that was launched in the Middle East earlier this year.
The new X6 xDrive50i model is the world’s first eight-cylinder gasoline engine with the turbo-charger and catalytic converters housed in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders, giving a maximum output of 407 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.

Doha- The 6th Annual BMW Sales Certification programme, established to ensure all sales executives represent the premium values of the BMW and MINI brands, saw 20 BMW Group Middle East sales executives from around the region receive certificates of recognition after successfully completing a range of courses.
Among them were four representatives from Alfardan Automobiles, exclusive importer of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce in Qatar. Graduating top of their BMW class were Nabil Jalloul, 97.2 per cent and Ayman Berjawi, 95.2 per cent, coming first and second respectively. They were joined by Ola Mohsen, now a certified MINI Sales Executive and Ahmed Al Khudary, receiving his certification for BMW Premium Selection.
The one-year programme includes six intensive training courses, covering selling skills, product knowledge and brand behaviour. Successful graduates are rewarded with the title of Certified BMW, MINI or Premium Selection Sales Executive.

The Sales Certification programme ensures that each sales executive is comprehensively trained in all aspects of the brand to unify product knowledge with our premium values, while delivering the highest level of customer service across the region,” said Roland Rahme, Sales Training Manager of BMW Group Middle East.
At the end of each course, participants are tested on the material taken with an expected passing grade of 70 per cent. After completing the initial courses additional modules can be taken to develop skill sets further such as Advanced Selling Skills and Advanced Prospecting.
“The long-term training initiative ensures that our sales executives are equipped with the right skills to best represent our brands and deliver excellent results. Our approach to delivering and maintaining a premium, standardised business underscores BMW Group Middle East’s approach to constantly raising the bar in the premium luxury automotive sector,” added Rahme.
Initiated in 2002, the Middle East was the first market to implement the BMW Sales Certification programme. So far 137 sales executives have graduated since the start of the programme with constant monitoring and assessments continuing well after the training to guarantee that all skills learnt are put into practice on the ‘floor’.

BMW Group exclusive importer in Qatar, Alfardan Automobiles, is set to become the champion among champions after being appointed as an official sponsor of the forthcoming Sony Ericsson Tennis Championships - Doha 2008, taking place at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex in Doha from the 4th – 9th November.

The world’s top eight women singles players and top four doubles teams from the 2008 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour season will compete for the Championship title and a share of the record prize money of $4.45 million.

Qatar - The new BMW 7 Series has made its much anticipated debut in Qatar, marking a new era in automotive design, seven years after the world’s most successful premium automotive manufacturer launched its bestselling BMW 7 Series model.
The flagship 7 Series is set to strengthen BMW’s position in the premium segment with the latest in automotive innovation and technological development, to offer unrivalled performance, luxury and style.
“BMW has a strong and successful heritage in Qatar, and we are confident that the new 7 Series will maintain BMW’s leading position in the luxury performance class,” said Naim Majdalani, Director of Sales and Marketing, Alfardan Automobiles. “The level of customer interest and number of confirmed orders we have received to date has exceeded all expectations.”
The new 7 Series will enter the Qatari market with two brand new engine variants – the in-line six cylinder 740iL and V8 750iL – both with twin-turbo technology and direct fuel injection.
